IH Farmal B414 fuel starvation

Sypmtom: tracter runs fine (as ever) but under load or at high idle will quit from lack of fuel. Demonstrated by empty fuel float bowl.

Replaced fuel pump, no change; cleaned Zenith carb, no problems observed and did not correct problem. Assumed the needle/seat valve was stuck, apparantly not. Could not locate carburator kit locally and reused gaskets - doesn't appear to be a problem.

Out of ideas. There is not a fuel filter that I can locate - another classic fuel starvation cause. New fuel pump could be bad, however, I do not know how to test or determine.

Any suggestions would really be appreciated!

Cordially,

Rusty

Rusty I will tell you what others will when they get on. You need to check and make sure you are getting a full fuel flow from the tank. I have a neighbor who was out baling hay, small ford diesel. He called me at work and asked if I could look at it. It was and hour before I could get away. By the time I got there he had called the Ford house and was trying to get a mechanic out , was calling for a new injector pump, etc. etc. It was a Sunday afternoon. I started disconnecting fuel lines fromthe injector pump back... No good fuel flow. Finally got to the line from the petcock to the filters. still no flow just a dribble. I blew back through the line until I could hear bubbles in the tank. I quit blowing and we had a solid line full flow. I looked inot the tank with a good flashlight and saw a "hairball" laying next to the fuel outlet. We drained the tank and removed the petcock and fished out the hairball... It had been drawn onto the opening and the suction had pulled it in. refilled every thing and tightened all the lines. Also the injector pump. ( they were getting ready for the mechanic). The tractor is still running , but once a year he drains the tank and flushes it out. He doesn't have a bulk tank and fills out of 5 gallon cans that stores in the horse tack shed full of saddle blankets and loose horse hair. Good luck and sorry for the long post but it is a slow day here at work ... Tallperson
