I have read a lot of the posts about Farmall H Rear Axle Seals and they are all good. My question is, why does everyone take the axle out if just the seal by the wheel is leaking? Is it to inspect/replace the axle bearing(s) also?
Thanks.

I don"t think anyone takes the axle out for the seal by the wheels, I just did those last weekend on mine, and I sure the heck didn"t. What you are reading about is probably replacing the gaskets between the axle housing and the transmission case

There are 2 seals; the inner one keeps the oil in the transmission. The axle housing must be removed to get at that seal.
