MW 9-speed and hand clutch

Hi All , Does anyone have any opinions on what a complete 9-speed for an M should bring in good usable condition with all the bearings , seals , cable actuater and other parts and the stock transmission gears included , out of the tractor ? How about a hand clutch ? Thanks ! ...Randy

Hi , Well yes and no . Yes I do have one installed in my M and I like it a lot ( but the trany makes a bad grinding noise unless I'm coasting down a hill so I want another one just in case ) , and no I don't have one for sale but I was going to start looking for one and needed to know what I could or should expect to pay . I could go and buy another M that has the lever shift style AND power steering AND live hydrualics but he wants a bit more than I'm able to pay , beside it's got a lot of little nickle and dime things wrong with it and two rear big dollar items too that need replacing BAD . The tractor isn't worth what he wants for it unless someone parts it out and I hope he doesn't allow that to happen because it does run REAL good . I'm still trying to buy it just at a more reasonable price . But I don't think he's going to budge on the price , time will tell . Good luck in your search , they seem to be getting fewer and farther between them . Take care ...Randy

the nine speed unit would be worth $400 it would be a little more if it was the lever shift type. the clutch would be worth $300 if the facings are in useable shape.

Hi Randy , Sorry I didn't respond last night but I have to sleep some time and it was getting late . Thanks for price range . I have a m&w but was looking for a set of parts gears . When I looked in my fill hole of the trany I saw a lot of rust pits on the gears . I think this tractor must have been saved from a grove somewhere . When I pulled the oil pan I found leaves and twigs in the crankcase . But it all works and it runs pretty good so I'm not to worried . The trany growls but I think that is a bad bearing in the input shaft or counter shaft . It growls in neutral sitting still also . If it is a bad bearing then the gears may be worn lopsided so I want a better gearset handy before I open it up . There's a 9-speed I found on ebay but it's up to $510 and I don't want to pay that much but it comes with the complete trany . Take care ...Randy
