Farmall C dies

I've been having difficulty keeping my C running lately.

Heres what it was doing:
-It would run well for 10-15 minutes, then die, as though out of fuel, and would not immediately restart
-After 10-15 minutes, it would restart and run for a minute or two, then die again.

Heres what I did:
-rebuilt carb
-replaced fuel line/screen/elbow
-cleaned strainer assembly
-cleaned out tank

After this, it would idle fairly well but die under load. Being unsure of my carb rebuilding skill, I then replaced the old carb with a pro rebuild. Now it starts easily and runs well for 5-10 seconds, then dies just as if I had shut it off.

My wrenching abilities are pretty limited, and I'm not really sure where to begin troubleshooting. Any insight would be appreciated - the grass is now tall enough to loose small-to-medium children for days.

Sounds like a problem I had -- the elctrical was shorting out on the hood of my M. worth a shot.

Thanks, guys

I"ll check for spark tonight or tomorrow. If I have good spark, then I will disassemble the carb to see if the problem lies there. It does appear there is a strong flow of fuel to the carb, so I"ll check the internals.

Thanks, again

Shannon

"-It would run well for 10-15 minutes, then die, as though out of fuel, and would not immediately restart
-After 10-15 minutes, it would restart and run for a minute or two, then die again"

The above is a typical coil problem. After it cools of it will start.

"Heres what I did:

This sounds like a fuel delivery problem "pro rebuild" on a carb doesn't mean much. However you could still have crud inside the outlet in the tank. Look inside the tank and carefully run a wire in the outlet. If by "replaced fuel line/screen/elbow", if that was on the sediment bowl, there is another screen inside the fitting on the carb, but my interpretation is that you replaced that. Othewise you have a problem inside the carb. Disassemble, soak in carb cleaner overnight (carb cleaner, not parts cleaner) blow out with compressed air, and set the float to specs. Those carbs are very simple. I am not completely ruling out the coil, but usually the tractor will not restart within 5-15 minutes of dying.

Is it a mag or a distubutor type system?? If its a distubutor system I would try a hot wire from the battery to make sure the ignition switch isn't going bad. If that doesn't help then try replaceing the condenser. Or it could also be the coil but not as likely. When it dies have you check to make sure you have a good brite blue spark?? If the spark isn't a good blue spark you have found where your problem is, its in the ignition system
