Worked on my BN charging problem. Cleaned grounds etc. Grounded the F terminal and nothing. Printed instructions John T posted that said to jump bat terminal on VR to A post of gen (I don't have the paper infront of me but I think that is what I did) and sure enough it charged great! I figure the VR is bad so took the top off and inside looked like brand new. Contacts are shiney and clean. Could it still be bad? Thanks

This is how I wired it:
1. Gen F to VR F
2. Gen A to VR gen terminal on bottom
3. VR bat to ammeter
4. Ammeter to battery/starter
5. VR L to lights (lights work good)

Forgot to mention that when I did the test to jump the VR bat to A post of generator , the F post of generator was grounded at that time also. Thank you.

The regulator may need to be grounded the winding of the regulator that pulls in the cutout relay needs to go to ground to cause the connection to be made. Assure a good regulator ground. JimN

Thanks Jim. I cleaned up where the VR bolts to the genreator with some sandpaper. I'll try running a wire from it to ground and see what happens.
