There was no lever on the M, I think the SM had a lever. One cable runs from the starter switch to the starter. There is a cable from the other starter switch to the negative post on the battery. Positive post on the battery is grounded. Also on the same starter switch terminal that the switch to battery cable attaches to, run a wire to the negative terminal on the ammeter. If you attach this wire to the positive ammeter terminal the engine will die when you release the starter switch. The positive terminal on the ammeter has a wire that runs to the "bat" terminal on the regulator.

Correction--This sentence is incorrect: "If you attach this wire to the positive ammeter terminal the engine will die when you release the starter switch" -- I should have said: "if you attach the wire from the negative ammeter terminal to the switch terminal that has the battery cable on it the tractor will die when you release the switch."
