Just rolled back in here I had to cut the trip short due to a funeral today. However, "I learned" that there are a lots of people across America that messes with "Red" paint other than me. There were some works of art there (the Howard the Cowman) and all of which was better than mine...I found that there were some "serious" restorers. One fellow I met shipped his tractor all the way from NC to Michigan to have it painted!!!!! and then carted it back. He liked it so well he said "I would appreciate it if you would not touch it" :-) I have always had trouble keeping my hands off beautiful things...I guess that is why I get slapped so much. In addition to the cowman, I stopped by just south of Columbus and picked up a block and saw another exceptional restoration of an H.... Douglas...the young fellow that as having trouble wioth the oil pressure. He cleaned the trash out of the pump and it works just fine. All in all, this was a good experience...lots of nice folks and the expectatons from myself were definitely raised regarding the quality of work I am going to do. Those that did not get to go, you missed a good gathering.

Hope to see you next year if not sooner....River Bottom Farmer

What, the guy didn't bring his velvet rope?
When you treat your tractors like they belong in a glass case, maybe you need to find another hobby.

As long as the "Red Guys" don't get as "Bad" as those "Green Guys", we should be Okay.

I was at Wauseon one year and a fella brung his Farmall H to the show fresh from spreading manure.
I thought that was cool ! ;o]

Thats why I have given up the show scene.I had planned on attending this years RPRU,but the conference I was going to got postponed:( Too much money has gotten involved in this hobby to make it fun to me anymore.Ill play with my $4500 M,my $2800 Cub, and all of my other tractors just fine right out in the field, and if some guy stops and wants to look at one,or ride one or just touch it,its all fine with me

It's whatever the individual that owns the tractor wants. If it's rusty, so be it, if he doesn't want it touched, so be that. Each person needs to respect the others wishes. It takes all kinds. It's not a competition.

I do respect the wishes of collectors and their DO NOT TOUCH signs.I usually just walk by because that sign is telling me they have more money invested in it than I make in a year, so therefore they are better than me! Im not jealous, it just ticks me off. I mean, a restored 8-16 is one thing, but a M or H or the like, please!

I don't believe they think they are better than you, they are simply proud of the work they put into their tractors, and don't want a bunch of people leaning on them. H's and M's are just as hard to paint as older or newer tractors, (but they have a LOT less parts than the newer ones) and get messed up just as easily. Having done the prep work and then attempted to do good paint jobs I know the amount of work that goes into them-days, weeks, months. Again, to each his own.

I really wish you could come down here and make an attempt at meeting some of the guys I am refering to.Then you could understand my point of view.Im not tyring to start a big debate or arguement, just wish you,or anyone else for that matter, could understand why I have given up the show scene,at least to the point of showing at larger shows. There are indeed a few smaller shows I will still show at,simply because of the respect shown by the others showing.I have noticed that even some of the Farmall owners have became as irritating as the cocky JD owners that are out there. But as with anything, theres AHs in every bunch.

I live in the boonies, have only been to two shows in my life, as I have only been doing this for 5 years (I am retired and do it to keep from going nuts). I'm not cocky, I just respect the amount of work that goes into cars, trucks, tractors, anything. One thing I do not care for are the big lifted 4x4 pickups, or the other way the lowered ones -- but I do respect the amount of work that has gone into them. I think RPRU is in Missouri in 2008. A "close" 400 miles or so. I intend to go and bring my 460 Hi Utility, if I ever get it finished, and if it's not too heavy for my half ton to pull. It will have about 3 years of work in it (I'm slower than grandma), not cocky, but I won't want people climbing all over it after that much time and money. I don't call that being irritating, because as I said, I enjoy looking at the old rusty ones also. Otherwise I will probably bring my run of the mill Stage 2 Super H, which I put a lot of work into, but it darn sure isn't perfect. Or I might come and bring nothing. There is no reason to be cocky. I did run into one guy at Howard's club's show (NE Cowman) in North Platte last year. He said my tractor has been buffed, I politely made some comment. I don't know if he meant it looked too good, or if he meant I should learn to paint well enough so that I don't need to buff -- As you say even in my limited experience you run into all kinds.

I whole heartedly agree with you. If someone has the means and wants to do an all out restoration, why not. If they want to bring straight from the field, god bless em. I like them all and think the mix of restored, unrestored, and everything in between makes a show interesting.
