I wired my BN per this site. It has a magneto ignition and 6 volt pos ground system. The generator has a 4 pole voltage regulator and I used the L terminal to power lights. If I check battery voltage it is 6.34 running or not with a new battery. I cleaned all of the grounds well. I grounded the F terminal and still nothing. I had another voltage regulator in the garage and tried it with same results. I am getting battery voltage to the ammeter, both posts. Any ideas what is wrong? Thanks

If you grounded the field and it doesent charge the gen is bad. Take off the gen and have it checked.

The field poles of a generator need to have magnetism in them for the generator to begin charging, THis is called residual magnetism and is in the steel of the pole. To get the magnetism it is necessary to polarize the generator by setting up a strong current in the field windings to give the poles a charge of magnetism.

With the tractor OFF run a jumper from the small F terminal of the gen to good (shiny) ground on the block. Then with a second jumper (I like a piece of solid copper 10ga house wiring wire about 10" long with the insulation off of each end for 1/4") jump, for no more than one second, between the BAT terminal of the regulator and the GEN/ARM terminal. This action will cause a spark at the end of the wire, but is harmless, so be prepared for that fact. This puts battery voltage into the generator, and charges the field magnets, polarizing them. Remove the ground lead from the F terminal and start the tractor to see if it worked. Post back if it does not.
