Back home on the farm in ND for about a month to help out my Dad. The 1086 digital readout is acting up again...

Tach will read over 8000 rpms at times, speedo shows 50 plus mph. I have cleaned all connections, took out the tach sensor and cleaned it up and re-set it, etc.

Any thoughts? I hate electronic crap - my H had been sitting since Christmas and fired right up without any trouble... :o)

If you have a digital multi-meter, & can get into the unit, check voltage at the +5 volt regulator. Should be 4.98 to 5.02 volts. The 5 volt reg. should have a number like 7805 on it. Looking at the reg. from the front, the left terminal is volts in[13.6] middle terminal is ground, & right terminal is voltage out[5 volts]. These can cause all kinds of problems.

Steven, mine did similar thinks a couple of years ago.

When more than one function screws up it is probably the read out part that is bad.

Theres a electronic shop here in Cedar Rapids Iowa that fixes those things.

Check with your local dealer to see if anyone locally fixes them.

They rebuild mine and it works fine.

Gary

Had it sent in/rebuilt about 4 years ago. If it needs that again I'm going to use some fancy language! First one lasts over 20 years, rebuild it and clunks out in a few years!
