I have been around IH Farmalls all my life. My dad is a collector and I have helped him restore a few. Recently I have found a 300 for sale and since this "gene" runs in the family I am buying my first antique tractor myself. I am trying to surprise him by buying it on my own. I thought I knew enough.... but I have driven it and found what all the levers do except I cant get the TA to work. So, here is my stupid question!! There are two levers on the right side of the tractor I have tried a number of sequences to pull them and push them to see which throws in the TA. Nothing seems to work. What lever does what? The lady selling it has no idea what a TA is and doesnt even know if it works. Thanks!

My 300 Farmall has the T/A on the left side (while sitting on the tractor). Pull the lever back (towards you while sitting) to engage the low side. There should be a release lever that allows you to let the lever foward and dis-engage the torque amplifier. The levers on the right side, one or two on the upper right are for the front and rear hydraulics and/or the fast hitch. The third lever on the right will be a much longer lever that when pulled back engages the PTO. It will have a push button release to disengage the PTO by releasing and pushing the lever back foward. If you have some load on the tractor such as a slight incline and the tractor does not slow down the the T/A is probably not functioning. Apparently a somewhat common problem. Others can probably tell what's involved to fix it.
