Distillate manifold

I have a 43 H with a dual fuel manifold. The baffle was rusted tight in the gas position. I wanted to free it up but wound up completely removing the baffle. What effect will this have on the way the tractor runs on gas, if any?? I think most of the exhaust will be drawn straight up away from the heat chamber that is now wide open. Opinions please.

you're better off without the flapper if just running on gas. The flapper was designed to hold heat in the manifold to better vaporize kerosene. Mark

I am not an engineer...but I had the same problem. The thing down in there was frozen up so I removed the shaft, then the flapper, welded up the holes and put it on there..as far as I can tell...it runs ok for me. You got to be careful breaking this thing loose...cause on another one I made scrap out of the manifold by hitting it too hard! The exhaust has not been a problem.

By "welded up the holes" do you mean that you closed off the heat jacket or were there some holes in the outside of the manifold that you repaired?

Ahhh...I'll bet you meant that you welded up the holes for the shaft??
