460 clutch question

Hey guys, my 460 doesn't seem to shift gears all too well. You have to wait about 10 sec. afer you push the clutch in before you switch otherwise you just gring them til they slow down. From R to 1st is ok but upshifting just grinds them alot. I can down shift from 2nd to 1st ok most of the time also. When I first got the tractor I went by the book for adjusting the clutch and TA because I was trying to find out if the TA worked or not and it didn't. I am not sure if it shifted better before I adjusted it to spec. and don't remember how much I adjusted it.

So does any one have any idea wha way I can adjust the clutch to help it shift better?

The free play can be as little as 3/4" from the platform to the pedal stop (on the pedal). This is less than spec, but should provide enough travel to shift when fully depressed. If it does not, the driven disk may be stuck on the splines, or in worn spots on the splines, or the disk could be warped, causing it to drag.

Sounds like you are trying to shift on the move? If so, there is nothing that will make it shift better. Your tractor is not like a car or truck in that the gears are not syncronized and are not designed to shift on the fly.

If I it is from a dead stop, just adjust the linkage so you get a little more release if the clutch is not completely releasing.
