i can't believe i'm posting one of *those* posts. anyhow there is a red utility tractor for sale locally with no model plates on it, similar sheetmetal to a 560, and a c135 engine. tractor has all hydraulic loader, looks like live pto, NO fasthitch or 3 pt. just a drawbarlike an M. rear trans casting about the size of a C. has a 5 spd transmission, with 5th gear in the top right position.
tach shows 1200 hours. hmm
asking price is $3500. location central mn. looks like a repaint on the sheet metal. serial plate only has engraved serial numbers and option suffixes. how many times you think that tach has been around? was a TA available on those models? looks good and fairly sound from 5 feet away. some obvious leaks of oil all over, nothing i wouldnt expect from a tractor. is 3500 what these things are going for now? i grew up with the 500$ used tractor mindset from my dad who's 64 yrs old. i'm 26. i know i should contact seller, get the tractor's history, and also test drive, but i want an up to date reference point of value from you guys. plan to use it as a farm/yard/hobby tractor. what capacity can i expect from the loader? as extreme a load as a 4x5 round bale? leery of the frameless design as our C's front has broken off at the block twice in the past 40 years getting pulled out of the mud.

thanks

The transmission confuses me. Someone explain that to me. I though all 5 speeds were like the H-450, with 5th in the lower right. 340, maybe. With no 3 point it is not worth $3500. It came with either fast hitch or an "industrial" 3 point, according to Ken Updike The transmission is a red flag to me. TA was not available.

The loader is not a bale handler in my opinion. You should be shy of the strength of the chassis. The lack of a three point removes the avaibility of a rear spike. If it was pretty fine, it might be worth that much, but it does not exactly fit your intentions. JimN

Sounds like a 340 Farmall to me. Tach's probably been replaced, or is broken.

$3500 is close, but still high IMHO. If the tractor is missing the emblems, how much abuse has it had in its life? You've got to beat the heck out of a tractor to knock the emblems off.

probably an eager weekend painter. since the sheetmetal looks like a repaint. i am picturing someone trying to remove the emblems in a hurry and damaging them! the shift pattern looked odd to me too. should have looked closer, but i've had bad luck in that town with police getting called on me for stupid reasons. making a night deposit at the bank at their NIGHT DEPOSIT BOX is suspiscious activity? oops too much info. lol my thoughts on what would be ideal for my needs. 1) borrow my dad's when i need--darn he doesnt have a loader tractor or skid steer! 2) 656 with loader (i would consider an IH vs farmall for that but dad and uncle swear the ih ones were junk) 3) ford 5000. both of those are high value machines though. my grandpa had a 464 if i remember right 3 cyl diesel with loader and moved bales with that. at the time that was up for auction i was in no shape to even afford my car payments. it went for 4 grand. anyway thanks for the input. :)
