Saw a good looking hydraulic system on a Farmall A listed on ebay. Where is the hydraulic pump? It"s not off the PTO. Is it being run off the front pulley? Good looking hydraulic arrangement.

I have a 1939 Farmall A with a power steering pump mounted neatly on the side. It is used to raise and lower a 6' blade mounted under the tractor. Works very well and has good down pressure. In fact I posted this tractor and all of my equipment up for best offer a couple day a ago on this same forum. Check out the posting "my loss is your gain"!

I used to have a neighbor (old man) who had an A. he made a braket and installed a power steering pump from a car and used a universal hydraulic valve from a farm supply store. It worked really well, probably better than a Super A. it was really quick on the up and down.

Looks like the pump is hanging out the front driven off the crankshaft

Found another ebay listing with an interesting lift arrangement. This listing shows what appears to be a Super A (looking at hood label) that does not have a hydraulic system but, instead, has what appears to be a electric gear actuator lift. Looks like a gear driven worm screw type actuator. Has anyone seen add-on electric lifts like this for the Farmall A?

Bill, go ahead and use the "Ask Seller A Question" link on the auction page and see where that pump is mounted.

Neither of these solutions was "for" an A. They were conceived through the creativity of their owners, or former owners, and are one-off solutions to making an old tractor more useful.

The "Super" A is a redecaled A. Probably nothing wrong with what either person did, as long as it works. But, if you are in the market for a setup like that, I would look for a Super A with a belly mount. If you can't find one, then that's another matter. I think $2600 is a little high for an A, perhaps not for a Super A. I paid $1850 for my Super A and Woods belly mount mower 7 or so years ago. I don't know where the hyd pump is on the first one either.

Cnks, thanks for your comments. I've got a 140 and just go looking at Farmall listings on ebay to kill time. I think the first listing has a hydraulic pump running off the front pulley. The second listing's electric actuator would probably not lift much. Just looking at the itty bitty diameter wires says the motor is not getting anywhere close to starter motor amps.
