I have a #46T IH baler, and I broke a u-joint in the end of the shaft that connects to the gearcase up front and the packer arm in the back. How does this shaft come off? I noticed it is splined and punched like someone marked it in the past to take it off without losing time. I have had a 45T and a 46T and never had to replace any part of this shaft before.

The shaft that comes out of the gearbox has raised spines so you can move the drive shaft down toward the gearbox to unhook the top U-joint. On the early 46T, this is were you timed the needles so made sure you index the shaft and U-joint so that when you go back together you will not change any of the timing. Also make sure that you index the top shaft to the bottom shaft because changing the timing. John In Iowa
