I have searched the archives and have only succeeded in confusing myself even more. I have a 1942 Farmall M that needs pistons, sleeves and new cylinder head. As the subject says, I have an 8060 head. What I think I should do is get the 4 inch bore pistons and sleeves with the "M, W6, T6 with fire crater type pistons. 1.312 O.D. piston pin." If I pop for the extra money on the a)oversize pistons, and/or b)the fire crater pistons
will I see a significant increase in power from the stock M engine? Will the fire crater pistons work in the 8060 head? Will going with the fire crater pistons have an adverse effect on the longevity of the engine? I won't be using this for a pulling tractor. It will be pulling a disc, and other assorted tasks.

I apologize if all this info is in the archives, but before I lay out the dough, I want to be sure that I am doing the right thing.

Thanks,
Tom

Stuff a set of high alt. pistons in it in the 4 inch bore and it should get ya over 50 ponys as there enough room for even the 8000 ft. pistons makes for some real good power down here where the air is better.

95 out of 100 m's have had either firecrater or m+w pistons put in them. it won't cause early failure. if you are interested i can send you a american made firecrater piston and sleeve set for four hundred dollars.

My 1940 M with 8060 head, is equipped with 4 inch flat top pistons. It will put out a full 46 hosepower on the pto dyno, which is 10 horsepower more than it had stock.
