I just hooked the wire to my lights. Then I just blink the lights on and off to excite the field. I did put a diode in the line so it won't back feed which probably isn't necessary because if I leave the lights on it will run the battery down anyway. If i for get to blink the lights after it starts its no big deal because there's no current draw with a mag. If i do need lights it will start to charge as soon as I turn the lights on.

You will need some sort of switch and then just hook the other side back to the battery. Or in other words run a wire from #1 to a switch and then hook the other side back to the battery. You will need to turn on the switch every time to excite the alternator for it to start chargeing.

Just connect it to the distributor side of the ignition switch, through an idiot light. Ba-da-bing, ba-da-boom.
