I'm having trouble starting my M. It just wants to crank and crank. It is 12V. It's getting gas and spark. I had new coil in stock and exchanged it. Gapped points at .013. What could it be?

Thanks,
Mark

It has a mag. It has slowly gotten worse. I'll reset the timing and try the points at .020.

Thanks,
mark

13 is the correct setting for a mag. Are you sure the rotor is lined up with the tower when it gets ready to fire

If it has a mag the points are supposed to be set at .013, right where you have them now. You said it has spark, but does it have spark at the spark plugs? You said it has fuel, but is the fuel getting into the cylinders? You can have spark and fuel, but if either or both are not getting to the right place at the right time the engine will not start.

Could be timing or mixture problems. Is this a recent aquisition or has it been running fine before?

The .013 spec is for the magneto ignition, which is what the tractor would have had originally. Old is right on the .020 spec, which is correct for a distributor ignition. I made the same mistake one time, but the tractor still started up and ran, so I think you have another problem, but go ahead and set the points to .020 and see what happens.

Your point gap is way off, it should be set at .020 not .013. If you open up the gap to the right setting it will probably work better for you. By the way the gap setting came from my I-T manual
