I have 400x15"s and 8.3x24"s now. They just look too small.
Will 500x15 (front) and 11.2x24 (rear) fit the wheels on my A? Or are they too wide?

Your tire size should be determined by what are you using it for and what size rims you now have. I like the 4.00x15 on the front and have some 8.3x24 on 7in rim and also 9.5x24 on 8in rims.

Keith,

500x15 on front and 9.5x24 rears is a good match. You"ll get good traction for just about anything you would be doing with an A, plus that tire combination allows the tractor to sit level from front to back. I have a 1940 A with that configuration, and it is a good match.

Keith: Your probably right on what tractor came with new from factory. I would take your upgrade idea except I'd go with 5.00x15 front and 9.5x24 rear. 11.2 is going to make your tractor look low on front.

5.00x14 and 9.2x24 were the standard tire for SA, 11.2 didn't come until 100, 130, and 140 and most of them with 11.2 had 16" up front. That is how my 130 came equiped new 5.50x16 and 11.2x24

Dave is also correct about attachments and implements.

I have 5-15's on the front and new 11.2's on the rear of my Super A, about 1/4 inch lower at the front of the hood compared to the rear. But, not much difference between the old 9(9.5)-24's and 10(11.2)-24's. 11.2 just sounds bigger than it is when compared to a 9-24. That assumes that the rears are 4, not 6 ply. On the other hand, about 14 months ago I bought a C with the original, or close to it rear 9-36's, with 5-15's on a WFE, definitly runs uphill, when I fix it up it gets 11.2's on the rear.

CNKS: I believe there must be different profile on some of those tires. I have a set of matched, about 50% worn 9.5x24 Generals on my Super A. I just removed a set of well worn 11.2x24 Firestones from my 140. Parked side by side in the shop those 11.2x24 stood a good 3" taller than the 9.5x24.

I have 12.4x24 Firestones now on both 130 and 140. It takes 5.50x16 up front to make tractor sit level The 12.4x24 stands about 5" taller than the 9.5x24. I actually run 6.00x16 on front of my 130, I like them when plowing snow as they roll over snow and other frozen objects better. There is a photo of my 130 equiped with the 12.4x24 and 6.00x16 in the photo gallery here at YT.

Could be. I don't think much was standardized when the old tires were made. Be interesting to compare an original 9 with a new 9.5. When you mentioned your tractors, I went out and looked at mine with the 11.2's. It does sit lower in the front, but I would have to be pretty picky to object to it. I could probably even it out with 6 ply on the front. I do agree about the speeds though. As to the C, I have one with new 11.2's on it and one with half worn 9.5's (they have the original 9 designation). Going to measure them tomorrow, probably not a fair comparison, since the old ones are worn.

Those are most likely the tires sizes the tractor came with. Bigger tires just don't look right to me and the mounted equipment doesn't fit right either. Those tractors are too high geared in my opinion and bigger tires makes it faster yet and less power. You can put the 5.00's on the front OK. I think you'll need different rims for the rear. Best to ask at a good tire shop that sells AG tires. Dave.

I have the 5.00x15 and the 11.2x24 on both super A's. had the 4.00x15 and they just didn't look right. no problems with the rims , fits like a glove.
