Well, evidently, in about 1982, IHC got sued over a leaky gas cap. I don't know the whole story. They still are replacing gas caps with an improved model. The tank lips, hafter years of use get bent a little by gas nozzles rubbing on them and general use and abuse. So, each dealer got a tool to reform the tank lip. I think, because I found a guy, Bill Poore, think was his name selling the tools on the farmall cub web site. I bought one and the instructions with it were copies of instructions from IHC to a dealer. It is a neat tool and it works well. They are a little pricey, but there is quite a bit of machine work involved in them. The lip needs to be almost perfect for the gasket to seal. I have both old Farmalls and John Deere's (Ihope I can use that word on here). I hoped it would work on both, but the green one's have a smaller tank inlet. I haven't tried it on any other brands. If I left out anything just ask, enough people on here have helped me.

The reason I ask is that my tank on the Super A seems to leak from under the cap, not from the vent. Got a new cap several years ago, same style as the old one, and it still leaked. Don't know if the new replacement caps would be any better. Seems to me the lip at the bottom of the opening may be worn enough to prevent a tight seal. Made a thicker gasket and it did not help. Would what you have help.

I think it would. I tried all of the same things on my H and after I used that tool it quit leaking. Of course nothing on 50 year old tractors is a guanentee.
