My charging is showing discharge should I reverse the polarity and how do I do it?

I need a wiring diagram for a Farmall Super C. I'v got a short somewhere.The wires were cut when I bought it. It's a possitive ground and 6 volt bat and gen and 4 prong reg. Not running the new battery shows discharge on the ampmeter. When I hook up the hot wire I get too much arc. I don't know where to begin find the problems.

First are you using correct polarity and have you polorized the gen?

Wayne, When you say charging is showing discharging, do you only mean the ammeter is reading bass ackwards??? If the ammeter is wired correct, when you turn the lights or ignition on when shes not running, it ought to swing over to -discharge and then when running, if the charging system works, she ought to swing over to + charge and more at faster RPM. IT DO THAT???

If it does just backwards of that i.e. it swings to + charge not running if lights are turned on then swings to - discharge at RPM ALL YOU GOTTA DO IS SWAP THE AMMETER LEADS

BUTTTTT TTT if you mean the genny isnt charging at all (stays at - discharge even at RPM) REVERSING BATTERY POLARITY OR REVERSING THE AMMETER LEADS IS NOTTTTT T THE ANSWER. You dont wanna go n reverse battery polarity without re polarizing the genny and doing some other wire changes just cuz shes not charging at all (if thats what you meant)!!!!! !!!!! !

Sooooo oo if shes not charging, post back n let me know and I will post my complete Troubleshooting Procedure for non charging. If she charges but the ammeter reads bass ackwards, swap its leads DONT GO CHANGING BATTERY POLARITY

We need more info,
Do this test, or explain more.
With tractor off turn on lights. If amp gauge goes up towards the right, the amp gauge is in backwards.
If it goes down toward left, it is correct. If downwards when running, the charging system needs help, and we will need:
The battery voltage, type of generator or alternator, regulator (if any) ground polarity (Positive, or Negative gound). and what the symptoms are.
