Farmall C Oil Pressure?

I am looking at a C that has been restored. The oil pressure when cold is 40 lbs. It quickly goes to 39. When running warm, it is 20 lbs or slightly less. Have a Super MTA and the oil pressure is 75 when cold and drops to 58-60 when running warm. The C doesn"t smoke and has good power, but that pressure is too low, right? I haven"t changed the oil and imagine it hasn"t been changed for quite some time.

It doesn"t sound like it is a major problem. I bet it is a weak pump or bad gasket. The motor seems strong and it looks like it could be driven in a parade. The paint is really nice. I sure like the size of the tractor. I guess I"ll probably go ahead and get it. I wonder if there are any other problems or things I should look for on a C before buying? Thanks for the input!

I have my Fathers 1950 Farmall C. After bringing it to our home we noticed the oil pressure was good when started and then as it warmed it would drop. We dropped the oil pan and notice oil seeping from the bottom of the oil pump. Not much but just enough. My husband removed the bolts and dropped the cover and much to our surprise the gasket was worn and missing from one area and the spring was broken. He ordered new at the local dealer and placed the cover on a flat board with sand paper and rubbed and rubbed back and forth. He thought he would never get it clean. Put it back together and the pressure is great. Maybe this could help. Good luck.

I have an A that I have used for over FORTY years and oil pressure has never been any better than that. After thousands of hours of use I have not done any work on engine and it is just beginning to smoke a little.

I would start by changing the oil and filter. Then run the tractor and then see what your pressure is. The oil pump may have some wear and the rod and main bearings may be worn too. Close tolerances on these bearings will give you good oil pressure. Hal
