I RECENTLY REPLACED THE GASKET ON THE PUSH ROD ACCESS COVER ON THE TRACTOR. I NOTICE ALL THE PUSH RODS HAD OIL IN THE LITTLE CONE THEY SIT IN EXCEPT THE FIRST ONE. WHY? HOW DO THEY GET OILED? COULD THIS TIE IN WITH WHAT SOUNDS LIKE EXCESSIVE ROCKER ARM NOISE AT A HIGH IDLE.

Oil runs down the push rod holes from up above. As to why the front lifter didn't have any oil in it, are you saying it was totally dry, or just not as full of oil as the others? Some of those lifters had a oil hole in the side to allow oil to get out and around them, and some did not. Mabey you've got one oddball. No reason why oil shouldn't be getting to it, unless you've got some extreme deposits. As to the valve train noise, do you know when the last time the valve lash was adjusted? If not, it's time to adjust.
