Super C gear to drive belt pulley

I have a Farmall Super C tractor that I am looking into adding a belt drive above the regular PTO shaft on the rear to drive a small hammer mill to grind corn for my wife"s chickens. I found one on ebay for sale near to me, but I wonder if the gear is already in my tractor that drives the belt drive attachment? There is just a cast iron plate above the PTO shaft now, and it is shaped like it might fit over that drive gear. Were these gears put on the drive shaft from the factory in case a dealer added the belt drive unit? Or will I probably need both?

Why dont you remove the plate and weeif the gear is there as it is possible that some one removed the pulley and replaced with the plate.

Don, you'll need the gear, the oil tube and the oil tube nut. Let me know if you find an extra nut.

If I need to find a gear to drive the belt drive unit, then I think my chances of finding one of these gears is pretty small. And the belt drive unit is pretty worthless to me without the drive gear. I would have to find probably a matched set from someone removing the belt drive to make it work for me. I guess thats why the ones on Ebay are going so cheap or not selling at all.

Don, Bates should have uaed gears in stock. I might have bought their last oil tube. They don't have the oil tube nuts.

Ebay is not your only source for parts. There are generally tractor salvage yards anywhere there are tractors, and on top of that, this is a relatively small part that should be easily shippable.

I think the reason the belt pulley drives don't sell is because they're heavy and expensive to ship. Most people use that automated shipping calculator thing on Ebay, which is linked to "Mail Boxes Etc." now known as the UPS Store. They charge about double what normal shipping is.

The belt drive unit I was looking at is only 50 miles from home, so I was just going to drive over and pick it up. But I don"t really have the time to search tractor salvage yards for this kind of stuff. And I am not a tractor restoration person. I actually use my three old Farmalls for production since I can"t afford to buy new ones. I have an old Farmall hammer mill, and the belt to drive it with, and a belt drive on my M. But it is too big for the small hammer mill. So I was just trying to figure out a way to drive it off my Super C. And I was trying to figure out if there was a way to see if I have the drive gear without taking off the cover plate. It looks like the original cover plate, so I am probably missing the drive gear.

Don't give up so easily, Don. If the belt drive is coming from someone who took it off a tractor, the gear is still on their tractor, and they don't need it any more. If it is a Super C, you could arrange with the owner to swap the belt drive shaft with you, yours without the gear, his with (This would be a LOT easier than removing the gear from the shaft). The shaft is easily removed, engaging with the forks of the on/off lever.
