Got an unusual oil leak.

After we did the final pressure wash yesterday, got an oil leak out of the back of the fan pulley. My question is. can I drain out the oil and install a zerk inplace of the oil stop screw and pump housing full of grease. Nothing worse than an oil leak on a new paint job. Want to get this fixed before we paint. Thanks

Keith & Shawn

PS. it is not just a small drip, since yesterday evening it put oil all over timing gear housing, bolster, and lower crank pulley. Then has run down pedestle. Keith

If you want to end the problem, get a new fan with a sealed bearing. If you have recently added oil to it, I think you are supposed to add oil to the level of the hole with the fill plug in the left horizontal position, then turn the fan until the hole is at the bottom to drain out excess oil. You are supposed to do this every 60 hours, not many people do. I don't think you are supposed to use grease, as it may be to thick to "sling" properly. Perhaps someone who has done it will answer. I have 2 C's, the fan on both went south shortly after purchase. The first one did it after disassembly and cleaning and supposedly correctly reoiling. The second one after changing antifreeze and replacing the fan belt a few days after purchase -- coincidence. But I now don't trust them.

CNKS, went and printed the page for servicing that hub. As I could not figure out how any oil would remain after I turned the Oil retainer screw down, says there is a stand pipe. So I had to take mine apart to see where it was as I could not see a stand pipe external. I see what you are talking about as far as oil slinger. I think the problem is when I power washed it, forced water into the hub, as oil was milky in color. Also it appears the oil is way to light like 10 or 15 weight instead of engine oil 30W.

Thanks for the heads up.
