My BIL has a SuperA that is extremely hard to crank with a hand crank(hard to turn). I replaced the brushes in the starter, cleaned the stator? and cleaned all connections. Has a new 6 volt battery. Slow turning over. My question , should it take a circus strongman to hand crank the tractor? I have a cub(newly overhauled) and it turns over fairly easy.

I have a Farmall A that had the same problem. It turned out to be the fan assembly that was going bad. Mine completely stopped and I thought the engine locked up. Took the assembly off and it was seized due to no oil inside.Got a new one and it spins like a top. Better check it just in case.

No. I have a newly overhauled B (same engine) that has high-compression, over-sized pistons in it and I can hand start it with one hand using normal effort. And I'm no muscleman.

It shouldn't turn that hard, take the sparkplugs out and see if it still turns over hard. It should spin over with minimal effort with the plugs out. Then have somebody sit on it and hold down the clutch while you turn it over. That would eliminate the transmission drag.

If it's still hard to turn over, I'm not sure what could be bound up that tight.
