The only way that I can get my f-12 to start is to tow it.It runs good once it starts.Rebuilt mag,new points, condenser, coil, wires & plugs.
Timing is right on the button.Went through the carb & used new gas.Could it be the carb settings?Could someone give me the correct settings. It used to start on the first or second turn. Thanks for any help. Don.

Mine did that once and it turned out to be the spark plug gap incorrect(along with weak fire from the mag)
\just a thought.

I would definately check the float level setting. I don"t know what it should be for a 12, but for a 20 it was 1 49/64" +/- 1/16". That is the problem if it runs rich and the adjustment screws don"t seem to change it any. Just had that problem this weekend and broke the float trying to adjust it, so be careful. JB Weld if it breaks anyway.

Does is start hard when it's cold, when it's warm/hot, or both?

Mine had a problem where it'd start good cold, but was a miserable SOB to start when hot, and finally got to where it wouldn't start at all. Turned out the float in the carb was leaking and finally got waterlogged to the point that it would flood as soon as it started.

These things will flood if you look at 'em cross-eyed. I'd check the float condition and height very carefully. Second guess is to check the advance mechanism as the other feller mentioned.

Where do you have the timing on the mag set when you are trying to start it?

I set the advance lever at the half way position.
I thought about advancing it a little more, but I don`t wanna get kicked.Any thoughts on that?
Thanks Don.
