Just want to remind everyone to CHECK YOUR BLOOD PRESSURE. We went to our cottage on Saturday and had a restful overnight and leisurely morning, stopped and chored at the farm, had to needle a calf, but she's looking better. Home for the afternoon as we have to go to a visitation. I see my doctor tomorrow. As near as I can tell I am doing well and I find that I feel better when I do some work around the farm but still tire quickly and need to sit down and rest periodically.Surviving a stroke is an experience that I do not wish on anyone. By that I mean don't have one in the first place. My Stroke Clinic empasizes that Strokes are Totally Preventable!!! In the first week after I had headaches and felt like I had the flu, kind of weak. Gradually got through that in the second week but my meds made my vision a little blurry, my arms felt like I was carrying a bag of corn on each arm. That feeling has gone and I am feeling like myself except for my energy level, but its coming. I should start cutting hay this week and I will be sure to rest as the need be. I only have 20 acres to do. Have lots of help lined up to bale and put it in the barn. Friends, this post isn't about me, its about you, please take the time to get your blood pressure checked, book a physical and keep safe, like I've said you are all neighbours, you are here everyday visiting back and forth with me and each other and we don't want to lose any of you or have any of you in ill health. If you are over 40 get a PSA test with your physical, a great American Arnold Scwartznegger battled prostrate cancer and he advocates you having it checked. Take care Neighbours..Mike in Exeter Ontario

Michael, unless I am mistaken this is one of several of your postings re the danger involved with high blood pressure going unaddressed. You do a great service by hammering that point home! I thought I was bullet proof as well re prostate problems; only after great pressure was brought to bear from two brothers did I move on that one and found I also have cancer, making it three out of five brothers to be afflicted. I had an app't last Tuesday and asked the nurse to chk my BP but she (evidently) got busy and overlooked me and I didn't think of it until I was on the way home. I will have that done before this week is out. Keep up the well founded campaign. DBP

Yes, strokes are preventable... but some are missed and people pass away unnecessarily.

RECOGNIZING A STROKE:

Thank God for the sense to remember the "3" steps.

Read and Learn!

Sometimes symptoms of a stroke are difficult to identify. Unfortunately, the lack of awareness spells disaster. The stroke victim may suffer severe brain damage when people nearby fail to recognize the symptoms of a stroke.

Now doctors say a bystander can recognize a stroke by asking three simple questions:

S *Ask the individual to SMILE.

T *Ask the person to TALK, to SPEAK A SIMPLE SENTENCE. (Coherently) (i.e. . . . It is sunny out today)

R *Ask him or her to RAISE BOTH ARMS.

NOTE: Another 'sign' of a stroke is this: Ask the person to 'stick' out their tongue . if the tongue is 'crooked', if it goes to one side or the other, that is also an indication of a stroke.

If he or she has trouble with any one of these tasks, call 911 immediately and describe the symptoms to the dispatcher.

A cardiologist says if everyone who gets this e-mail sends it to ten people, you can bet at least one life will be saved.

Thank God my stroke was very mild and that yours was caught soon enough!

Proof that young people (58 is still pretty young in my book) can have health problems and not be aware of them!
