I have a 1942 H. The throttle handle settles back to the number four position when I pull it wide open. Anyone know how to adjust it?

Mine did that for years. Found out that the triangle shaped bell crank that the rod hooks to was turned backwards and the geometry was wrong.

You don't say, but it sounds like you already have a friction disk type throttle handle. I got one to replace my toothed handle and it does the same thing. It can be tightened by first loosening the lock nut on the bottom, then tighten down the bolt on top, then retighten the lock nut. Problem with mine is, if it's tight enough not to slip it takes both hands and a foot to move it.
I've got just about all the old parts I've tasken of the H lying around the shed. The one I can't find it the worn out toothed throttle. I wish I had fixed it instead.

Besides looking at the teeth, see if the handle is bent. I believe that the heel on the other end, and the tooth should be the only parts touching the cap. On mine, the handle was bent down, reducing the spring pressure. Straightening the handle and welding a little strap across the hump in the handle fixed that.

If it is the original "saw tooth" throttle control, it is probably worn out. The little "tooth" on the handle can be built up by welding, and then ground back to shape, but that is kind of a hassle, and sometimes doesn't help that much because the saw teeth on the round plate are worn out also. New assemblies are available, or if you want to save a little money, you can get a brand new "M&W" style friction throttle for less money.
