i have an h i bought for $500.00, all complete, it just hasn't ran in 3 yrs. i tried hand cranking it and there is a pulley on the very bottom where crank goes that is stuck. does this mean pistons are stuck or what? by the way, this is my first try at buying and restoring a tractor. any help appreciated. thanks

And on all of these suggestions regarding putting their preferred "rust buster" in the cylinders, once it does come loose make sure that you spin the engine over a few revolutions with the spark plugs out, in order to blow the remaining liquid out the plug holes. If you don't, and too much liquid remains in the cylinders, you could bend a rod or break something because of hydraulic lock (ie, trying to compress a liquid).

Remove the starter as it could be locked with flywheel then try crank or rocking wheel that is jacked up and tranny in 5th.

One of the tractors I purchased had an exhaust valve that was stuck. Most likely though, it will be that the rings are stuck to the cyclinder wall on your H. Some people pull the plugs and put Automatic transmission fluid in the cyclinders. Others will use P B Blaster. What ever you try in the engine, be sure to give it time to work. Most say to park the tractor in high gear and with the plugs out, try to rock the tractor back and forth to get it to break free. Try it ever few days and eventually it should free up. Good Luck.

I would suggest two things. Pull the valve cover and out transmission fluid on the valves and carefully tap them to see if they are loose. If all looks good there, then it is likely the pistons. Take out the spark plugs and put transmission fluid in the cylinders. Put in a quarter cup or so and then put the plugs back in loosely. Let it set for a few days. Then every time you walk by it, rock the rear wheels back and forth to see if you can break it loose. You could also take the spark plugs back out and try using the starter to bust it loose.
