We have heavy soil up here and heavy spring and fall rains. I like big tires on tractors. I don't have a 460(like 'em though), but what is the biggest tires you've seen on one, front and rear? How wide are the rear rims? Thanks, Glenn

I like the idea of duals. That way you can take off one set if you don't want/need them. Plus the extra weight is like wheel weights for stability.

I set duals up for my Super C; rationalized that it would be more stable for mowing on hills. Really just an excuse, 'cause I like the looks of them.

Good luck,
Bill

I dunno Glenn,

A 460 is just a newer version of the H. Don't think I'd go much over a 15.5 X 38.

Biggest tires I've ever seen on one are 18.4-38. I'm sure someone has tried to put larger tires on one, I just haven't seen them. The 18.4's didn't look bad, but they did look a lot wider than stock (14.9-38, I think?)

I thought the stock on an H (other than metal) was 11.4 X 38. At least that what I always saw on some old working rigs.

I mean for actual field work, not tractor pulls, etc. Glenn

There is a huge problem with putting bigger and bigger tires on a tractor. It doesn't take much before your tractor runs out of power to turn them.

You might be able to get away with one, maybe two, sizes larger than stock, but the difference in footprint is barely worth it.

If you want floatation, put duals on the tractor.

Fronts are a little different. You could put 11L15s, or even 12.5L16s on the front of a 460 pretty easy, and those would add a tremendous amount of floatation to the front end.

I agree you have to use your head. Interesting, we had a 2wd Gleaner combine. I don't remember the factory tire size, but it was not enough. The previous owner had the rims widened and put on 23" wide tires. It was UNBELIEVABLE the mud that thing could go through. Glenn

Yeah, but on tractor tires, they don't just get wider. They also get bigger around.

14.9 or 15.5 is about as big as you would want for actual work. I suppose you might consider some 16.9s.
