When I depress the clutch to shift from forward to reverse the shifter lever seems stuck. If I turn the engine off I can shift it. I tried adjusting the clutch rod because it seems like it's not dissenging but then the clutch slips. I know nothing about hydrolic clutchs. Am I adjusting the right place or is there something else I should look for. Help!

John

The tractor Vet is correct, however noone has indicated that the manuals are available on this site. At the very top of the left link column is manuals, there are a bunch listed for your unit. Binders Books also has them.

Not only do you have to have the free travel set correctly but also the T/A dump valve and transmission brake . Now if ya do not know what i am talkeing about then i would suggest that you get and I T manual and read up on what is what you you know what i am talken about and also make sure that the oil lite comes on in the dash as this will need to be working . After ya know where the dump valve is and transmission brake are i will walk you thru the propper way of doing it as i have a way of doing it that works real well and no silly massuren to do that nobody ever gets wright . the only place that you have to use a massuren stick is for the free travel of the clutch , myself i made up a go nogo block that i use for the )6 seires and one for the 56' and also the 66's that way ya just slide it in and adjust and you are there. . When the adjustments are correct they will shift with two fingers .

Vet,
I drove to the IH/Case dealer this morning. He didn't list a service manual any more. They didn't even have one on their service bench. Is this something that could walk me through? Or, is there a place that you know that I can get a manual? Thanks, John

PS: shifting with two fingers would be just fine. Heck, right now I'd use my foot if I could!

I feel bad for ya, because you've got one of those Case IH dealers with a guy behind the parts desk that doesn't know jack. He wouldn't be able to find his head if it wasn't attached.

You don't want the IH service manual anyway. You want the I&T manual, like the tractor vet was talking about. These you can get on Ebay, at your local Tractor Supply, on this site, or at many dozens of other tractor parts sites.

Vet,

Is there any way we can set it up so that it will shift with one finger? :>)
