YTers,

How is the bull pinion bearing retainer removed? I have the parts manual and the I&T book and neither one is much help. I need to replace the seal on the bull pinion/brake shaft. Got the cover and brake assembly off, now what?

Thanks,
Bill

Got it! Thanks, guys. in reply to BillWV, 05-19-2006 17:19:51
I gently tapped with my 2-lb shop hammer, and gingerly pried with a 3-ft nail puller. :-)

Actually, ground some screwdrivers thin and tapped them in sequentially until it broke loose. It was the center where the o-ring is that was holding it so tight. I assume that the notches around the perimeter are for a gear puller? Didn't have one handy or I would have tried it. Would have to take the wheel off first to have enough room.

Looking forward to getting the brakes fixed now.

Thanks,

Bill

There's an o-ring inside that makes the retainer hard to remove. Pry from opposing sides, it'll come off with some persuasion.

The retainer is a tight fit against the housing. I think there are also dowel pins that hold it in place. Carefully pry around it around to remove. I think I remember the I&T manual not being very clear about this part of the procedure when I put a seal in one side of my Super C.

I don't have a Super C, but if it is like the Super H and M, the seal should be on the outside, you just have to carefully dig it out, it won't give up without a fight. -- someone else can correct me if that is not the case.
