This may not be news to many of you, but for the sake of the uninitiated.....I felt I had to post this.
Folks, if you have any carburator trouble at all, take the time to drop $20 for a kit and rebuild it.

I spent the last couple evenings cleaning the carb spotless...all night soak in carb cleaner, then a good brushing and plenty of compressed air and a rinse in clean gas. Install the parts and make sure the float is adjusted right....maybe a 30 minute job. The rewards (for me) are unbelievable. I thought the tractor ran well, but sputtered a bit before. HAR! It acts like a rebuilt engine now and I am convinced it has regained 5 lost HP....that's over 20%! No drips either:).

I don't mean to be picking on you, but where are you buying a carb kit for just $20?

I bought mine at a local dealership.....the stuff I bought cost $18.65 and tax. It consisted of a needle and seat and 2 gaskets....not much but all that was really needed I guess. The place is Farmer's Machinery in Grayson, Ky. operated by Pete Littleton.....been there for 40 years I reckon.

Then, there is Marshall's in Cynthiana, Ky., they sell on ebay....they have a 'super kit' that has a new throttle shaft, needle&seat, idle screw and a handful of gaskets for $16.97, plus postage. There is another seller named Matt from North or South Carolina who has the same kit for $14 and change.

I am amazed at the folks who never check ebay for parts.....it is full of them and generally at bargain prices. I just happened to find mine locally or would have ordered from Marshall's..... I have bought from them before.....got my hydraulic res. kit there for $92. They have their toll free number listed on their ebay ads.....call'em.

Here is the link...I qouted the price wrong...it's $16.75, not $16.97.

I buy and sell on eBay, I see those kits all the time and can't help but wonder about the quality. My dealer wholesale cost is higher than what those kits retail for on eBay.

Rusty,

The hydraulic rebuild kit I got from Marshall's was first class, in fact I think some of the envelopes had caseIH or whatever on them. For the cost, how much can you lose? All I can testify to, is what I received.....quality parts and I do recall the packages saying Made in USA. As for the wholesale prices you get, I sold guns for years and dealt with practically every distributor in the country....but no way I could compete with discount stores on ammo...they also ran sales on guns cheaper than I could buy them. It is the power of volume buying and knowing where to get the stuff. An outfit like Walmart bypasses the distributor all together..they buy at distributor cost or less...because they buy semi truck loads at a time. Law of Economics.
