Hey Cowman, or anybody else, anybody got a live hydraulic pump that will fit an H? Son got home from the big sand box and decides he wants the last old H I got in the shed for a mowing tractor and just to have. It would work better with live hydraulics so if anybody gots one let me know. Thanks, Harley

What kind of pump should a guy look at? Whats a H run at 1700 rpm? What flow ect needed for a good set up?

My pump runs about 2000 rpm at full throttle and puts out around 16 gallons per minute at that speed. I think I get around 1000 psi out of it before the belt slips. It runs the power steering and hydraulics flawlessly. A person could probably get by with 10 GPM without the power steering.

My pump is a Cross brand, specifically designed for the side loading of the shaft by belt tension.

For comparison purposes, a Super M pump puts out 1200 psi at 12 gallons per minute. Many of the transmission drive pumps (460/560 and up) are only around 15 GPM, but put out more pressure.

If I were to do it over, I would like to try a dual-stage log splitter pump just to see how it would work. I would also go with a cogged belt drive - the cost of pulleys was prohibitive at the time I set mine up.

Thanks Steven, it's a plain 1948 H and that belt idea might save changing the front timing gears, taking off the cover, etc. Again thanks, Harley

Hey Steven, nice looking pump setup! I see where you have a hinged bracket attached to the frame rail, but how do you tighten the belt? Is there another attachement point up closer to the pump?

P.S., Where in ND did you used to live? I was born in Minot and then lived north of Fargo for many years until moving to the tropics (Iowa) in 1993.

I used part of a framerail from another H to build the hinged mount. There is a plate that a bolt pushes on to tighten the belt--- it goes right into the hole in the timing cover that was originally the pivot point for the shutter mechanism.

I was in the SW corner of ND, South of Dickinson. Went to Minot for the state fair every couple of years... Fargo was the place we stayed when going to Rollag for the steam thresher's reunion.

I'd recomend a new belt drive pump.

Oh, and if it's not a super H, you should probably invest in a cam gear as well and locktite.

Not to mention a post-1950 front cover for the engine, as the factory distributor-drive pump will not bolt on to the older front cover...
