What is the best way to get the coupler off the Trans. driven pump on an M Farmall? My book says to put a steel rod in the gears and hit the coupler with a brass rod, hammer ect. I tried that and the only thing i have done is chip the gears. Is the coupler threaded on the shaft or what? The only thing wrong with the pump is the seal needs repaced.

take a piece of flat bar and weld a i/2 drive socket in the middle reach up there with an impact wrench and give her a good zap it will come off

I just replaced that seal on my M. Don"t use round stock, use a piece of flat stock 1/4 X 2" or maybe a wide chisel. Put it between the gears and take up the slack in the direction you are going to turn the coupler. Another pair of hands to hold the steel in place would help. Then give the coupler a good hit and it should break loose. It is threaded and you should be able to screw it off by hand. When you put it back on hand screw it tight and with the gears wedged give it couple good hits and you should be good to go.

DHS I was in the garage working on it when you replied. I got it off but it came off very hard, the threads look ok but it still came off hard. I guess it will go on hard as well. Do I need to put loctite on it?

Sounds like somebody who didn't know what they were doing buggered it up on you.

If it came off as hard as you say, and goes on as hard as you think it will... You don't need Loctite.
