Found an engine out of a TD40 and would like to make up a WD40 with it instead. I read these engines didn't have serial numbers so it should look authentic. Anyone know any differences between the wheel and track engines?

Just browsing around and happened to see your post. I have a WD40 that someone put a gas engine in. I would sell it for $3500.00US if you're interested.

It"s been a while since I"ve researched it, but I know that the crawler motors had a different type of intake for the oil pump so it could work on steep inclines. Of course that won"t matter in a wheel tractor.
The thing is, as someone else said, to make it right it would have to be put with the WD-40 bellhousing, trans and rear end.
Good luck. I"ve always wanted either a TD-40 or a WD-40.

The TD40 and WD40 are the same engine. yes it will fit right in the WD40 tractor . It will have a serial no. but not sure now if it matches tractor no. because later IHC made no attempt to match no.

The W-40s and WD-40s have different transmissions (and bell housings too, I understand) because the gas 6-cylinder engine runs faster than the 4-cylinder diesel. I"ve heard that putting a diesel in a gas frame makes it travel extremely slow, but that it does have a lot of power. Brian P.S. If you know where there is an extra air cleaner for that tractor or engine I would be interested in hearing from you, since my PD-40 doesn"t have an air cleaner..... .
