i've uploaded a pic of a wiring diagram as its now fitted ( after doing my best to decipher the farmall wiring instructions) into the parts and pieces gallery here.

she'll turnover and start when the key switch is on and the push button depressed, but as soon as you release the push button she dies.
what have i done wrong or missed??

Sounds like your missing the hot wire from the key switch to the resistor if it is a gasser as there should be juice to the resistor as soon as the key is turned on the juice that you are getting to the coil is from the start side of the seloniod for the HOT START and nothing for the run . Get your test lite and start checking . Off the top of my head at the moment i can not remember the wire color for the key to coil .

Charles,

I can't make out your diagram, however, sounds like you are needing a circuit from the ignition switch's "ignition" termainal to the positive side of the coil; thru a resistor if necessary.

Your tractor is starting and running on the starter's ignition feed at present.
