A friend of mine has his grandfather's WK 40 which he wants to restore. It had a cracked block (both internal and external cracks he tells me). Does anybody know where he could get a replacement block, and about how much he might expect to spend?

I'm asking here because I only have experience restoring Case and Ferguson, and don't know the parts situation for these McCormick/International tractors.

Thanks

welding an engine block is something that you need is a machine shop that specialize in this, not your town welding shop. it is a very costly project done properly. dont let just any welder on it , most wont tackle it anyway. if they do the block will be trashed. these blocks are hard to find, but the best is to hunt for one. they also crack on there own between the cyl. this was ihcs mistake putting this light truck engine in this tractor. they just got worked to death. they are nice units done properly, and not in the fields anymore with the governor pinned day after day. i have blocks but they got cracks also.

If I had Grandpa's tractor I'd want to keep it origional if I could. See if a good local weld shop can fix it. Lots of these old tractors have welds on/in the engines. Dave
