I am reviving a 450d and as one of the last steps drained the injector pump oil which i thought looked quite thin (almost like oily diesel!} Replaced it with 10w30 and now my 450 puts out lots of white smoke if i go faster than an idle. It ran fine without smoking up to this point. From the old post i'm guessing i have a seal out but noone else was mentioning lots of smoke. Can i run it like this without hurting anything, can i fix it myself or is there a place near sioux falls that fixes these pumps

Well a 10w30 is not the oil that you run in it , but white smoke is not a good thing as that is and indacation of low compression . As far as doing much to the Injection pump yourself other then maybe replacing the primary pump seal that is it , the rest must be done at a pump shop . Now your white smoke could be that the decompression valves or starting valves are not closing all the way because of something binging the linkage and not allowen them to closes all the way. The oil that should be used in that engine and in the injection pump should be a 30W seires 3 diesel engine oil.

Just for the heck of it, why not try draining it and trying #30 weight motor oil. We use #30 weight motor oil in our Cat diesel injector pump, have for years and never had any problems in the 30 years I was around it. My 2 cents.
