We"re about to get the 706 diesel back into running shape so that my dad can either sell it to someone or I"ll buy it. The tractor runs great, but the batteries are shot. The batteries are two 6 volt batteries run in parallel ( I think). Where can I find some cheap batteries for the beast? The dealership sells them for $90 each! They aren"t a typical 6 volt battery, they are about 18" long and 4-6" wide. I haven"t tried Tractor Supply yet, but recalling out of memory they don"t have any like that.

The batteries are 6volt batteries in a series (not parallel, sorry about that). I got a chance to change the oil and filter today as well as get a better look at the batteries. I think TSC will probably have the cheapest batteries ($63 each plus tax), unless Co-op has them cheaper. Hopefully we"ll get the batteries in the next few weeks and get it in operation again.

You could use (2) 12 volt batteries hooked in parallel or (2) 6 volt batteries hooked in series. Hal

In series W/ 6 volt batteries
+ starter

In parallel w/ 2 12 batteries

The two 6 volt batteries in my 560 (282 diesel) came from TSC. Three years old and no trouble. I do not remember the price but $40 might be close?

The 706 diesel batteries are in series. The neg. goes to ground on the tractor frame. Then you connect the pos. on that battery to the neg. on the second battery. The pos. of the 2nd battery goes to starter or where ever.
