An engine that runs on start only is pretty easy to diagnose. It is running because the ballast resistor bypass wire is doing its job. It is stopping because the "run" ignition circuit is "open". Put it in neutral, turn on the switch to run (not start) check for volts at the coil (supply side, not dist side, and the other lead of the volt meter to good shiny ground). If none, my theory is correct. If none, follow that wire to the ballast resistor. check for volts there at the terminal that wire connects to (there may be another wire there as well, ignore it). If volts, the wire is bad internally. If none, check for volts on the opposite side of the ballast resistor. if volts, replace theresistor, and you are set to go. If no volts, follow that wire to its other end and check for volts. If volts there that wire is bad. The wiring on your tractor may include switches and safety devices so tracing the wire may require effort. Eventualy the circuit will get back to the ignition switch terminal that is ign. (hot when in the run position. if this has no volts, the switch may be bad, or the supply to the switch may be disconnected. If the start on this tractor is like on a car by turning the key switch to start, the switch is bad. If it is by push button, the supply to the switch is faulty. I hope this allows you to diagnose the problem. keep un informed as to what you find, it is as important as our messages to you. JimN
