Time to start spreading good will!
Built in 1965 I bought this thing 20 years ago. Thought I should put some work into it since corrosion was taking hold.
New steel top edging, 3 new main bushings, new T style apron chain, Paint and pitch, and a bit of welding. Hope its good for another 40 years

Very perty Sh--t wagon! Who ever the engineer at IH-New Idea- and lots of other companys that thought metal is a good idea was nuts! My dad's New Idea the first flal model was all wood sides and bottom. Every couple of years you spray it down with used motor oil and it is still going. Many years ago we put a new front on it and I remember a new bottom chain. Shouldn't yours have a metal sheild over the PTO shaft? Jeffcat

Looks like you're set for another few years driving the 'turd hearse.

I've got a NH 519 (looks like the one in the background of your picture) that could use your touch too. (not your torch).

Happy Hauling!

Oh heck,

I thought I could get ya to make a house call. :>)

My old swather has a discharge chute that is getting pretty ragged. Think I'm gonna have to get after it like you did on your honey wagon.

Now, what is the proper proceedure? Do you wait until it completely falls off or does a guy try to do some "preventative maintence? :>)

Allan: The steel parts I needed were no longer available, so I used the old ones,(in some cases there wasn't much left) to make a cardboard pattern along with a 100% scale drawing of the bend angles. I went to a shop here that makes dump truck bodies and special decks for flatbeds. I used 12 guage steel but you may not need that heavy for what your doing 16 would be plenty. The stock only came in 8 ft lengths so I had to weld the seams. They just slapped the pattern onto the steel and cut, then slid it into the break. The whole thing was just $240.
If you took the old one in they could probably make one from that. Time is money for these guys so if you can make it simple its cheaper.
