I HAVE A SCHRAMM AIR COMPRESSOR THAT IS POWERED BY AN INTERNATIONAL U6 POWER UNIT. I CANNOT GET IT TO RUN UNLESS THE CHOKE IS ALMOST COMPLETELY CLOSED. IT SEEMS TO RUN FINE OTHERWISE. IT MIGHT BE A LITTLE LOW ON POWER. I HAVE REPLACED THE EXAUST MANIFOLD. I DONT WANT TO RUN IT HARD UNTIL I FIND OUT WHY I CANNOT OPEN THE CHOKE ALL OF THE WAY. ANY SUGGESTIONS??

You are describing classic fuel starvation. Start by checking fuel flow to the carburetor from the fuel tank. It should be a steady stream as full as the pipe that continues for several minutes. If not, check the fuel tank cap vent, and the fuel line/strainer and whatever else between the carburetor and the tank. If you have a rubber line, check to make sure that it hasn’t deteriorated and collapsed.

If you have good fuel flow to the carburetor, then check the jet settings, float settings, and make sure that the needle and seat valve are opening up allowing fuel flow. If this all checks out, check the fuel passages in the carburetor (some like to rebuild them at this point) to make sure that they aren’t blocked.

Good luck

You could have a vacumm leak or a fuel restriction somewhere. If you are sure the manifold is sealed tight then check the gasoline flow to the carb. If the flow is good then remove the carb and clean it internally. Also there is an outside chance that the intake valves aren't set right or need reground. Vacumm needed for updraft comes from the head intake valves.
