How would I go about finding out which lug on the starter solenoid is hot.. their happens to be three on this one, two large and one small converted my 300 u to 12v negative ground with an alternator

You need to use a volt meter to determine which terminal is hot. The terminal with an "s" is only hot when engine is cranked. Hal
PS: The terminal that has voltage usually feeds voltage to your ignition switch. Your car or truck is wired this way too.

Looking down on the solenoid with the small end toward you, and the crimped (or riveted) end away from you, and the mounting bracket on the table, the terminal on the left is to the battery, the terminal on the right is to the starter, and the small terminal goes to the start switch. In many cases there is a 8 or 10 gauge wire supplying power to the treactor on the battery terminal of the solenoid as well. (quite often the small terminal is located closer to the battery terminal than to the starter side terminal) I hope this helps, there may be some wierd solenoids out there, but I've not experienced any differing from the above plan.
