im selling my dads w4 on ebay and im being questioned about the year serial # S4 2928J he says its a 1940 super w4 IS IT?

i called him and made him go out and look it has a C 164 on it also on the spark plug side has 358067r1

Should have added to other post. If you don't know what you have and it is a 54 super W4 its going to be worth more. Look on side of engine block above oil filter and see if # C 164 is cast there.If so its a Super engine.

Don't know for sure, but the W4 wasn't introduced until 1941, and the super W4 didn't come out until 1953. Check serial numbers under research and info on the left side of this page.

Rusty, I think it is a 54 SW4 because the J code wasn't used before the supers if like the farmall series. I have no way of knowing what he's doing so no insalt intended,but when I read the post I couln't help but think is this a clever way to put a ebay sale here.
