Cub--How can I use an A carb (Zenith) on a Cub?

Can't find an affordable IH carb for a Cub but I have a few small Zeniths off of A's and B's. I adapted a Zenith to fit but it seriously over-fuels the tractor....black smoke and no power. I could put in a smaller venturi (15/32") but I think the main jet would be too big. Would it be possible to epoxy the jet and drill it out to a smaller diameter (size?)....or maybe braze or silver solder the hole and drill that out smaller? Anyone ever done anything like this?

Well, I don't have "the old carb." Just trying to be creative. Actually, I already started--after I posted the first question. I silver soldered the zenith main jet shut and rebored it to smaller Cub carb main jet size (.036" I think). I used a small Zenith 15/32" venturi. Don't know what application that had originally. Last step is to re-drill and tap the mounting holes to Cub manifold size. It will be intereswting to see how (if) it works. All it cost was 1/8" of silver solder!

Why don't you rebuild the old Cub carburetor instead of cobbing up a jerry rig. OEM Tractor
has a new carburetor for sale at 1-800-283-2122.
