I was thinking of buying an M cause I think they have a different gear ratio that a W-6,
I hope they do,I like them alot, and 400,s too,
My W-6 is ok except when i have to go down the road,and be in 5th gearm
It,s a pain to get going, and i dont wanna start out in 4th then hopefully not grind it when I go to 5th gear from 4th,
Chadd, if you there, please help me ok?

Kirk, just takes practice to shift for 4 th to 5th, like drivin a truck. I have no problem with my W6, plan to drive it about 15 miles tomorrow. Not in any hurry though, plan on enjoying an early morning drive.

Kirk - The M and W-6 are geared differently to account for the different rear tire diameters. However travel speeds are close to the same – so driving/shifting either tractor is the same.

You can smoothly shift either tractor from 4 – 5 like this:

1 – Start on a hard surface; level or slightly downhill. (The tractor must be able to coast for several seconds without slowing down too much...)

2 – Get the tractor going at max RPM in 4th gear.

3 – Simultaneously step on the clutch and close the throttle.

4 – While the engine RPMs coast down, move the shift lever to neutral.

5 – The instant the engine hits idle RPM, in quick succession release the clutch, step on it again and move the shift lever to 5th. If you do this right the lever will drop right into 5th without a hint of gear clash...

6 – Finally release the clutch, open the throttle and enjoy the ride!

It takes a few minutes of practice to figure out. But once mastered it it works great!

The M won"t be any different than the W-6 in that aspect. You are just going to have to learn how to shift from 4th to road gear without grinding the gears. It can be done, although I still occasionly get in a hurry and grind them a bit.
