Since the alternator has a built-in regulator- what do I do the wires that run to the external reg. Cut them back? What I thought about doing is cutting them back a little further and hooking those wires up to the reg. to make it look orginal.

Ya put the Blue 10 ga. wire to the gray 10ga. wire together and the gray wire goes to the Amp gauge . now the yellow wire can be used to excite the alt. from a CV relay or a seperate switch and this way you can turn on and off the alt and not have feed back and ya don't have to screw around with a diode or lite bulb , myself i use a Cv relay off the ing. switch and it works slicker the snot on the door knob. BUt i have strange ways of doing things .

Vet,

As set up originally, does the yellow wire got to a charge indicator light?

You can connect the large wire leading rearward to the regulator's BATT terminal, where it belongs, along with the large wire leading forwards to the alternator's large output stud, as these 2 wires need to be connected to carry the charging current from the alternator to the battery. It is OK to use the BATT terminal as a junction point for the two wires, or just connect them together, and toss the regulator.

Is there an "idiot light" charge indicator in the dash? If so, that's where the yellow wire is from.

This can be connected to the alternator's #1 "switched excite" terminal, then jumper the alternator's #2 "voltage sense" terminal to the alternator's large output stud.

Levi, as we told you somewhere earlier down below, the alternators rear main output stud is what now wires to the Load (NOT to battery/starter) side of the ammeter and I use 10 Gauge with the GM 10SI Alternators. I cant say for sure, but in your picture the wire on the right looks larger and if so may well be the one that used to run from the old regulators BAT terminal up to the load side of the ammeter. If it runs there and is 10 gauge (likely could get by even with 12 gauge) that wire could be used to feed the alternators output up to the ammeter. However if you wanna just attach those wires to the old regulator just strictly for looks, do like Old said and cut them and just have them as dummies in which case you could run a new 10 gauge from the alternator to the ammeter.

Well if you want to leave that little black box on then just hook up the wires to it as long as the other end of the wires don't hook to any thing. That way it will sort of look right but of course the alternator is a dead give away.
