IH 444-- LOADER HYDRAULICS CONVERSION....HELP

I'm looking at buying an IH 444 gas with a 1501 IH loader and power steering. The loader has hydraulic up/down but the bucket release has a hand trip lever back by the steering wheel. Is it fairly common to add hydraulics to the bucket to make that have gradual dumping capabilities rather than a trip dump? How big of a headache would that project be? Is it worth doing? It is a great tractor and that's the only "flaw" I can find. Also, are they pretty solid tractors? He's asking around $5000. Any help or advice would be appreciated. Thanks..... .Don (Western WA)

The 444 is certainly a mainstay of the era. Lots are still doing heavy work. You'll have to decide for yourself if its worth the price.

As far as the hydraulics go. I have a B250 (a much earlier predecessor)which also came with a trip bucket. I am not sure how the 444 powers the steering but I ran the main hydraulic line from the pump through a bank of control valves then let it continue on. Off those control valves I ran my loader, bucket and a remote. It wasn't hard, just messy, but in the end it tidied up the system.
